What are Tall Ships®?
There is not a true definition of a tall ship. Typically, the term describes a large, traditionally rigged sailing vessel. Tall Ships® come in many forms, such as barque, barquentine, brig, brigantine, ketchschooner and sloop.
 
When will the Tall Ships® be in Nova Scotia and what ports will they be visiting?
The dates for the Tall Ships® Nova Scotia Festival are from Thursday, July 16th to July 26th. The ships will be visiting several ports around Nova Scotia. Check our list of ports for more information.
 
How many ships will be coming to Nova Scotia?
There will be between 40 to 50 vessels participating in the Tall Ships® Nova Scotia Festival.
 
Where will the ships be docked in Halifax?
The ships will be docked all along the Halifax Boardwalk, from Casino Nova Scotia all the way down to Piers 23 & 24.
 
Where can I park?
Parking is limited in the downtown core. The easiest and most efficient way to get to the Tall Ships® Festival is to park at one of the many Metro Transit Park n' Ride lots and take the bus or ferry into downtown (details to follow).
 
What is the Parade of Sail?
The Parade of Sail is your best opportunity to see all the ships with their rigging out and crews onboard. The ships move from their dockside positions, past the reviewing station, and out to sea through the mouth of the Halifax harbour.
 
When is the Parade of Sail? 
The Parade of Sail in Halifax will take place on Monday, July 20th 2009.
 
Where is the best location to view the Parade of Sail?
Anywhere along the harbour front that's open to the public will offer amazing views of the Parade of Sail: in Halifax, from the Macdonald Bridge south (including the downtown boardwalk) to Point Pleasant Park; in Dartmouth, from Alderney Landing to Woodside.
 
What other events will take place while the ships are in port?
There will be a variety of events taking place in each port. Musical performances, nautical displays and exhibits, children’s activities, pirate camp, arts & crafts, crew games, re-enactors, cannon battles, and tours of vessels are just some of the activities taking place.
