The Mar was built in 1959 in Denmark by author Ernest K. Gann. The vessel was the subject of a documentary film produced by its next owner, Charles Tobias of the Pusser’s Rum Company, who used it to circumnavigate the world twice. In 1982 he sold the Mar to Gerard and Dorothy Murphy who used it to start their business, Murphy’s on the Water.
